About HcL

HcL Transport is a registered charity, set up in 1982 as Handicabs (Lothian) Limited. We provide supported accessible transport for people with mobility challenges in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Our services support people of any age who have mobility challenges. This includes older people; people with disabilities, additional support needs, health issues (long term or short term) affecting mobility; and geographic remoteness.

We provide a door-through-door service by providing the additional assistance many need at the start and end of a journey. This may be assisting people with getting their coat on or locking their door for them. It may be providing an arm as they walk out from their home to the bus. It may be ensuring that they are safely in their home after the journey.

We provide a service 365 days a year, evenings and weekends (subject to driver availability).

We provide two services – Dial-A-Ride and Dial-A-Bus which both help people to get out more, feel less isolated and retain their independence.

In addition, we provide 2 Community Bus services  one in  Broxburn and Uphall, this project is in partnership with West Lothian Council and our new 68 service that covers Gyle/Clermiston in Edinburgh, this service is in partnership with City of Edinburgh Council, please see community bus page for more details.

“I cannot overestimate how very good this service is, especially having the drivers take shopping in to the kitchen for me. I have several steps to my front door and being disabled I wouldn’t be able to manage this without their help. Office staff and drivers are always very helpful and cheerful.”

“I could not do without this service. The drivers are always very helpful, I appreciate everything they do for me.”

“Dial-A-Ride gives me the freedom to travel further afield with my wheelchair. The service is reliable, and the staff are not only helpful but very cheery.”
