New Procedures

We know that some of our passengers will be nervous to get back out and about again. We have implemented new cleaning procedures at the start of each drivers shift, in between each journey and at the end of their shift. We also commissioned a short film to be made to demonstrate procedures to existing and new passengers - please watch:

We are delighted to answer any questions you have. A couple of photos taken while we were filming. Big thanks to Denis and Joan!

DIAL-A-RIDE UPDATE - 2 July 2020

We are excited to say that Dial-A-Ride will be back fully operational from 20 July, albeit with some changes to meet Government guidelines.

  • We can take up to 4 people from 1 household on a journey.
  • Drivers will be wearing PPE
  • New cleaning procedures have been implemented for each bus each day and between each journey.
  • Passengers will be asked if they have any symptoms when booking and on the day of their journey.

You can call the office now and make bookings for any journey from 20 July onwards. We ask passengers not to travel with us if they feel unwell and have any Coronavirus symptoms.

And remember we are providing transport for any medical appointments now.

We have missed all our passengers and look forward to seeing you all soon!

What have we been up to during lockdown

Whilst Dial-A-Bus has not been operating during lockdown, Dial-A-Ride has been still supporting passengers to medical appointments and funerals.

A number of our drivers are furloughed but drivers that have been working have been supporting community projects to deliver meals and food parcels to people isolating and shielding across West Lothian and Edinburgh, around passenger journeys.

We have been working with:

  • SCRAN Academy
  • Tea Js Cafe
  • Boghall Drop In Centre
  • The Larder

We are really proud to have worked with these organisations to help support our local communities.

Volunteers Week

Although events are cancelled this week to recognise and celebrates volunteer due to the current situation, we still want to recognise our vounteers and how important they are to us.

We currently have 3 volunteers who help HcL operationally - 2 drivers, with one in West Lothian and one in Loanhead, and a despatcher in West Lothian.

We then have our Board of Trustees who all volunteer their time to help oversee HcL.

THANK YOU TO EACH OF YOU! We appreciate each of you and your kindness.

HcL were in the Tesco Bags for Life Public Vote from January to March in the Musselburgh Extra Store.

Due to the impact of Coronavirus, Tesco took the decision to remove the blue coins and existing charities that were instore for the vote would have the 3 amounts split equally between them.

We would like to thank everyone for their votes and thank the staff at Tesco Musselburgh for their support. We were delighted to be awarded £1,166.

HcL will put these funds towards a new additional vehicle for East Lothian. This will allow us to provide 3,500 more passenger journeys each year!

Thank you for you support.

Coronavirus - Update 06/04/20

We are providing a Dial-A-Ride service for hospital and emergency journeys only, with a maximum of two passengers on board.

We realise that many of our passengers are within the most vulnerable categories and will therefore be isolating or reducing how often they leave their homes. We are delivering food parcels to passengers who are unable to get out to shop by themselves in the current situation.

Please call your local office if you need help and we will do our best to assist you:

Coronavirus - Update 25/03/20

HcL take the wellbeing of our passengers, staff and volunteers very seriously.

In light of the current situation, we are continually reviewing our procedures and protocols to be in line with the most up-to-date advice. As a result of the latest guidance we have ceased to operate Dial-A-Bus. We are providing a Dial-A-Ride service for hospital and emergency journeys only, with a maximum of two passengers on board.

We realise that many of our passengers are within the most vulnerable categories and will therefore be isolating or reducing how often they leave their homes.

We have increased the level of cleaning in each of our vehicles and in particular the areas that are most frequently touched – Door handles; Handrails; Head rests; Seat grab handles; Seat backs; and Seat belts. Staff are following guidance on increased hand washing and using sanitiser. Staff are asked not to come to work if they or a family member in their household are self-isolating.

We respectfully ask that any passenger with a journey booked who feels they have symptoms advises us as soon as possible to cancel their booking.

Any passenger who needs our assistance, please get in touch with your local office.
